A select group of entrepreneurs shared their inspirational stories at an exclusive and intimate networking event in London.

The power of disruptive innovation was explored at Credit Suisse's 1st Private Innovation Circle, with a select group of entrepreneurs sharing their stories of how they intend to shape their respective industries.
An exclusive, intimate, and inspirational networking event, held in London on October 24, 2014, brought together representatives from the eight presenting companies and a handpicked audience of clients of the bank, including international opinion leaders and other influential figures. The event took place during the 14th Credit Suisse Salon, which hosted Dr. Ben Bernanke, former chairman of the Federal Reserve. Open, insightful dialogue was at the heart of the Private Innovation Circle, with the 100 guests given the opportunity to exchange ideas with the entrepreneurs, drawn from across the globe and from the fields of Environmental Sustainability and Waste Management, Healthcare and Medicine, Media and Technology, and Demographics and Real Estate.
The giants of the next decade?
The audience at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel in Knightsbridge joined Giles Keating, Global Head of Research, Private Banking and Wealth Management, Credit Suisse, in considering his observation that "the companies before you could become the giants of the next decade".
More than 50 companies had applied to be a part of the Private Innovation Circle, with Credit Suisse's aim "to showcase companies which had successfully introduced disruptive innovations in their respective fields". As John Zafiriou, Global Head of Solution Partners, Credit Suisse, said during his opening remarks, the companies were chosen "based on the innovative power of their business ideas, their revenue generation potential and the track record of their management". "Our 1st Private Innovation Circle is an expression of our common belief that innovation is a great lever to transform the world, that economic value can be unlocked everywhere across countries, regions and corporations," said Zafiriou.
Visionaries
Introduced by Zafiriou as "visionaries", the eight speakers gave insights into their creative thinking, technologies and ambition.
Sustainability was a theme of many of the presentations, including the first of the day, given by Frank E. Celli, the CEO and Chairman of BioHitech America, which has come up with a particularly creative and sustainable solution to solve the increasingly relevant issue of food waste disposal and its impact on our planet. Speaking at the Private Innovation Circle, Celli noted, was an "honor". "I was thrilled to have shared our exciting company story and products with an elite group of international decision-makers," he disclosed. Next to take center stage was Martin Vesper, the CEO of digitalSTROM, which offers a smart digital-based home solution and service platform for living services and energy management with the goal of revolutionizing the way we manage our homes and transform them to 'smart' homes, with almost unlimited possibilities.
An extraordinary opportunity
The guests also heard from John J. H. Pedersen, the Managing Partner of Ekistics Property Advisors LLP, which focuses on offering innovative access to asset backed, real estate linked returns across the capital structure and asset classes with a strong emphasis on running yield and capital preservation. Jan Nahum, the Founder, CEO and Chairman of Hexagon Kati Atik, spoke about the firm's objective to generate maximum value out of waste, producing recyclables, RDF, electricity, heat, agriculture grade compost and organomineral fertilizers until no value remains to be extracted.
For Nahum, the chance to address this audience was "an extraordinary opportunity", a sentiment no doubt shared by the other speakers, who included David Cam, the Founder and CEO of Hydrus Technology, which delivers leading edge solutions for a range of oil and gas, industrial wastewater, mineral recovery and environmental remediation challenges providing some of the most significant cost and resource efficiencies. Alex Ing, the Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Jax Coco, articulated how the company produces and distributes premium, natural coconut products which give consumers the benefit of a healthy product with the added knowledge that their choice is helping to finance infrastructure in the world's coconut-growing regions, improving farmers' lives.
Cutting-edge innovations
For the audience, the day was an introduction to, as Keating described them, "cutting-edge innovations with enormous growth potential". Michael A. Lehman, the CEO of Nutraceutical and Natural Products AG, spoke about their highly innovative technological solutions for the sugar, food and beverage industries which will naturally reduce the calorie and salt content of consumer products without compromising its taste, and extending manufacturers cost savings. To round off the presentations, Dr. Robert T. Do, the Founder and CEO of Solena Fuels Corporation, addressed the audience on how the company brings to the market a sustainable synthetic fuel solution that allows the aviation, maritime and road transportation industries to utilize a sustainable energy source without any modifications or changes to their engines or infrastructures.
First-hand, first-class insights
A panel discussion followed, with Keating leading the conversation, before the entrepreneurs took questions from the floor. The dialogue continued in the hotel's ballroom, with guests further familiarizing themselves with the entrepreneurs and their companies in the informal atmosphere of an open marketplace-style fair, with each of the presenters basing themselves at a booth. All the entrepreneurs had a video presentation and further information to share with visitors to their booths; those who stopped by Jax Coco's booth were offered a glass of chilled coconut water. After lunch, some guests had their pre-arranged one-on-one sessions with the entrepreneurs and with Credit Suisse's senior management.
Be in no doubt: every guest and entrepreneur at Credit Suisse's inaugural Private Innovation Circle gained first-hand, first-class insights into the power of innovation, as well as new inspiration.
