PlantZap® is a base that can be applied to produce Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), mainly beverages and food.PlantZap® is rich in natural electrolytes, such as potassium and magnesium. PlantZap® can be produced via a process developed and patented by the Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry Queensland (DAFFQ), which has, in turn, licensed PlantZap®'s worldwide commercial exploitation to NNP. The process involves a membrane fractionation process through which the clarified cane juice produced by a sugar mill is passed. The beverage base produced by the fractionation process is subject to a concentration process, which in turn yields the concentrate base, i.e., PlantZap® ready for shipment and subsequent commercial applications in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), namely beverages and food. As a result of the process, the sugar cane juice is returned for the sugar production process. NNP as the holder of the global rights to exploit PlantZap® has appointed a company to distribute PlantZap® via the development of flavour systems tailored to meet specific consumer and product requirements. The Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry Queensland (DAFFQ) has filed worldwide patent protection for both PlantZap® and the process to produce it.
Major trends affecting the processed beverage and food industries are very encouraging for the application of PlantZap® in end product formulations. Western diets are rich in sodium and sugar, which experts believe is a major cause of obesity, hypertension, diabetes and other degenerative illnesses. On the other hand, consumers in developed and key developing markets are turning their attention to products with clear health benefits and/or added functionality, such as replenishment, nutrition or enhanced energy and overall wellness. A clear example of such trends is the explosive growth in demand for coconut water in the U.S. and Western Europe.
